In the footsteps of…

A couple of weeks ago, we visited the Black Mountains, where my novel, ‘things found on the mountain’, is set.

I wanted a few photos of some of the places featured in the book, ready for social media posts and more detailed postings here, nearer to publication time.

We spent most time in Capel-y-ffin, the tiny hamlet nestled beneath the Ffwddog ridge, on the road between Hay-on-Wye and Abergavenny.

What I particularly loved about the visit was the feeling that I was following in the footsteps of some of my characters. Some of these were real people, such as Eric Gill, who is said to have carved a headstone in the churchyard. Gill lived for a while in the Monastery, just up the road from here.

David Jones, the poet-painter, stayed with Gill’s family, and painted the mountains and the stream.

But it’s also where my main character, Beth, would have walked and the churchyard is where she first met her love. I could picture her there so easily…

A great feeling!

things found on the mountain’ is due out in May 2023, published by Seren Books.
